sex during pregnancy
Some women have decreased libido during pregnancy; for others the opposite is true. Both are normal. Intercourse is fine if everything is progressing normally. Women experiencing preterm labor or placenta previa (a placenta that is located over the cervical opening) should avoid both intercourse and orgasm because of the risk of increasing uterine contractions.
In addition, vaginal bleeding, possible premature labor, or premature rupture of the amniotic fluid sac at any time during pregnancy are reasons to abstain.
After delivery, an episiotomy incision that is healing may make intercourse uncomfortable for several weeks. Other than these situations, intercourse is possible whenever both partners are willing and able. If one of these problems arises, explore other forms of sexual pleasuring to maintain sexual intimacy.
